What is the F=ma exam?

It is a physics exam for high school students conducted every February but more importantly, it is the gatekeeper to the US Physics Olympiad. In 2026, only 440 students out of 6,682 (just 6.5%) scored above the cutoff needed to take the Physics Olympiad


How difficult is it?

Both AP Physics and F=ma cover the same concepts - Algebra based Mechanics. But F=ma is more difficult because the problems demand profound physical reasoning rather than rote formula substitution. Standard high school prep doesn’t work here.


How does it matter to me?

Taking the exam and qualifying for the Olympiad shows an admission officer independent initiative, problem-solving under stress and a deep STEM focus that AP Physics alone cannot show.


How can Learn to Excel help?
